TransAcoustic™ pianos are authentic acoustic instruments that come with a volume control feature, thanks to Yamaha’s cutting-edge technology. You can also play them silently using headphones. The TransAcoustic™ Mode lets you adjust the piano’s volume, enabling you to play without bothering others. Even at reduced volumes, the soundboard still vibrates, allowing you to experience the complete, physical feel of genuine acoustic sound as you play.
When a key on an acoustic piano is pressed, its hammer hits the matching strings, causing them to vibrate. Although the initial sound is faint, the soundboard amplifies it, with the whole piano acting as a resonator. This produces the uniquely rich tone of an acoustic piano. TransAcoustic™ technology leverages this same resonance mechanism, activated by the soundboard, but uses a digital tone generator.
With TransAcoustic™ technology, there is no necessity for a speaker unit despite the sounds being digitally produced. A transducer is all that is needed. In TransAcoustic™ Mode, the hammers are halted just before they hit the strings, and sensors beneath the keys interpret how they are played. The transducer’s role is to transform the digital signals representing your input into vibrations and convey them to the soundboard. The soundboard then enhances these vibrations, causing the entire piano to resonate. Although the sound is digital, it utilizes the same resonance mechanism, ensuring that the sound you hear is as rich as that from an acoustic piano. Additionally, you can adjust the volume while still experiencing the sensation of playing an acoustic piano.
